The National Gallery is taking art to the districts with a new initiative.
Art Zone, a non-profit community art programme, will see the National Gallery van visit district libraries for a two-hour free art workshop.
During the session an art project and lesson will be introduced by the instructor and completed by the participants.
During the workshop, participants will help produce an island wide collective painting on the theme of island ‘space.’ The name of this large scale art piece will be called ‘Square Foot.’
Each participant will be given a 12 by 12 inch canvas where they will be asked to paint according to the theme using techniques taught in the art lesson. The completed pieces will be displayed in this summers ‘From Within’ Art Outreach exhibit and sale opening 21 August at the National Gallery. Proceeds from the sale of this piece will go back into community Art Outreach programmes.
If you would like to participate in the ‘Square Foot’ Art Zone project, contact Kiran Denis at 947-0853 or e-mail [email protected] to register for this event.
The minimum age for participation is 10 years.
We encourage adult participation of any age. Future Art Zone projects will include children of all ages.
