Cayman now has its own fete waving bandana.
A company by the name of Flirt Productions has introduced the new product to Cayman and has made it available to the public at a price of CI$10.
The bandana is blue and red with the words Cayman Islands printed boldly in white. The bandana also has the Cayman flag printed in the top left hand corner and the Cayman Coat of Arms on the right.
The concept for Cayman’s own bandana came about while a group of partygoers were attending carnival fetes in Miami.
They said almost all Caribbean islands have flag bandanas, which fetegoers wave proudly. Those countries represented received recognition by the artists on stage. Cayman did not because they did not have a bandana to call their own.
After returning home to Cayman, producers of the product said they set about making plans for Cayman to have its own bandana.
After receiving the granted approval from Cabinet to reproduce the flag, local graphic artist Camille Henry was consulted and quickly came up with the idea of the Cayman flag as the fete bandana.
The bar was set high on quality for the bandana and after receiving many samples it took almost a year for the company to find a printer who could print the bandanas to suited specifications.
Unfortunately none were found locally and the bandanas had to be printed overseas.
They said it was important to have Cayman Islands appear boldly on the flags as they wanted to make it easily distinguishable from flags of other British Dependant Territories.
Company owners said the product will make Caymanians proud to display it at any carnival/festival or event. The flags also make great souvenirs.
They also believe in giving back to the community and parts of the proceeds will be given to the Cayman Humane Society and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.
Bandanas are available for sale at Island Photo, both A.L. Thompson outlets, Kirks Supermarket and Fosters Food Fair for CI$10.
