Butterfield Bank is a major sponsor of this weekend’s Cayman Invitational Pirates Week Stage Race.
It’s on Saturday with an individual time trial cycling race and is the first of its kind to commemorate the annual festival.
‘Cycling is such a dynamic sport and to see a world-class sporting event of this kind kick off our annual Pirates Week Festival is very exciting,’ said Sheree Ebanks, Director and Head of Wealth Management for Butterfield.
‘As a full-service bank, Butterfield symbolises both tradition and advancement; this event encapsulates both.’
The early morning time trial will take place at 7am on the morning of the Pirates Landing on the waterfront. The big action, however, is from 12.45pm sharp as the cyclists of the race hit the Pirates Week parade route for the first ever pre-parade cycling race.
Steve Evans of the Cayman Islands Cycling Association said: ‘The Saturday afternoon race especially will be tremendously exciting and spectacular for spectators. In essence, we are bringing a little bit of the excitement of the Tour De France to the streets of George Town!’
The Cayman Islands Cycling Association is organising the event, which will feature several international cycling figures during an exciting three-day race schedule.
With an endorsement from the Ministry of Sports, the event will feature a follow-up circuit race on Sunday at Governor’s Harbour and a fast coastal loop on Monday, starting at Public Beach.
