Cayman remembers the fallen

The Cayman Islands will pay homage to fallen veterans in a day of remembrance on Sunday.

The annual Remembrance Day ensures that all military personnel slain on duty, particularly in the two world wars, are not forgotten for giving their lives so that others might live in peace.

The memorial will start promptly at 10.45am on Harbour Drive at the Cenotaph in front of Elmslie Memorial Church.

Contingents from uniformed organisations, including the police, the cadet corps and veterans, will assemble there while members of the public should be seated by 10.30am.

Following the Royal Salute, Governor Stuart Jack will lead all in the bidding to commemorate the fallen.

Afterwards, the congregation will stand silently for two minutes in remembrance.

Once the Last Post is sounded, the Governor, the Leader of Government Business, and the Leader of the Opposition will head a host of congregation members in laying wreaths at the cenotaph.

Wreaths will also be placed at the nearby Seaman’s Memorial.

The ceremony will conclude with the Governor’s salute during a march past by the uniformed contingents.
