Prospect Primary celebrates heritage

Quadrille dancing and thatching were two of many cultural traditions highlighted at Prospect Primary School Heritage Day on Thursday.

Students at the school participated in a number of yesteryear activities while learning the importance of their ancestral background.

The school campus hosted an array of local produce such as mangoes, limes, cassava, yams, sugar cane and coconuts along with traditional Caymanian dishes for students to see and taste.

Students also got the chance to view models of traditional Caymanian homes as well as learn traditional arts and crafts handiworks demonstrated by visiting seniors.

There was net making, thatching, traditional games, quadrille dancing, doll making and conch shell blowing, students also got the opportunity to sample local dishes such as conch stew and cassava cakes.

Mrs. Barnes, the coordinator of the event said the heritage day allowed students the opportunity to see and understand the importance of their cultural heritage.
