Roma’s form is puzzling

Roma FC faces Scholars International this Sunday at the Ed Bush playing field in a do or die game as the team desperately tries to gain their first points in the new Cayman Islands Football Association Premier League competition which started three weeks ago.

Roma FC were certainly one of the best last season winning their first silverware in CIFA’s competition The Digicel Knock Out Trophy.

So it seems strange that this team has not made any impression in gaining a single point at this stage of the competition.

Roma in beating Scholars International in this match which is in West Bay where the core of the Scholars spectators are, will be an uphill task but who knows as according to President of the Roma FC Robert Sairsingh this game could be the turning point for Roma.

‘Roma like other teams have always risen to the occasion when facing Scholars who have proven to be one of the best teams on the islands having won several titles over the years,’ he said.

Sairsingh went on to say that he had seen progress in the training sessions adding that the team was getting there and this game might be the one to break the losing spell.

Meanwhile, head coach of Scholars International Armando Ebanks feels confident that Scholars International will be taking all three points.

‘They are training hard; they look very sharp at the training sessions. I see no reason why they shouldn’t win this game and take the three points,’ Ebanks said.

Sunset FC leads the standings with nine points followed by Elite on seven, Scholars International and Latinos are on four a piece while Tigers has three, George Town two Future SC one and Roma on zero.

In other games on Sunday, Tigers play Sunset at 7pm at the Ed Bush venue and at the Annex George Town face Elite at 5pm and Latinos meet Future at 7pm.

In First Division Action East End came from behind to beat Scholars International 4-3 at the Annex Play Field while North Side FC got pass Sunset 3-1 and Bodden Town dismissed Elite 3-1 at Ed Bush Play Field.
