Freya Timms and her friends may be
among Cayman’s youngest fundraisers.
Noticing that charities raised
money by locating themselves at various venues and collecting money in tins,
6-year-old Freya figured she and her friends could do the same to raise money
to help the dogs and cats at the Humane Society.
Enlisting the help of 15 pals,
Freya and her band of young fundraisers spent one recent Saturday collecting
money for the abandoned animals at the shelter and raised almost $1,000.
The funds will go towards the
society’s recently launched Be my Hero, Fill my Bowl programme.
“It costs an average of $40 per
month to feed one dog. These funds will fill the bowls of 25 animals for one
month,” said Pamela Hart, the Humane Society’s fundraising chairman.
“Freya and her friends prove that
if kids care, they can make a difference no matter how young,” she added.
