Halloween a hit all around

Halloween fever gripped Grand
Cayman with an unholy host of Halloween events across the island last weekend.

As well as the usual neighbourhood
trick-or-treating, the major shopping malls, including Grand Harbour (Friday
night), Countryside Shopping Village (Saturday daytime), Governors Square
(Saturday afternoon) and Camana Bay (Saturday night), seem to have coordinated
their ghoulish gatherings so that many families were able to attend more than
one organised event. A lot of effort was put into staging the activities for
the young and the young-at-heart, and participants likewise went all out with
colourful costumes and plenty of face paint.

Camana Bay hosted a truly
spectacular Halloween Spooktacular. The Paseo was awash with Halloween stations
where tricked out trick-or-treaters collected candies, tattoos, hip Discovery
Centre souvenir bracelets. Parents were charmed by their little monsters
singing along and dancing at the howling sing-along. Children got a kick and a
squeal trying to guess what monster body part was concealed inside each pot at
the Monster Lab. The Spooky Creature feature in Gardenia Court introduced a
whole new generation to Ghostbusters.

Grand Harbour’s Halloween event
centred on several of the stores which gave out sweets. Bands performed, and
there was a costume contest and a photo boo’th. Food very much of the Halloween
tradition was also in plentiful supply on the Patio of the Brickhouse.

Adult visitors to Governors
Square’s Mall-oween were offered a glass of witches brew (champagne and
cranberry juice) at Just Add Water and sister store Welcome Home. Funky Monkey
hosted a children’s storytelling session, and luxury kitchen store Bon Vivant
hosted several events for the little ones including a cupcake decorating
session.

The 2010 Halloween Family Fun Day
at Countryside included a Howl-O-Ween doggy costume contest with prizes from Animal
House and The Veterinary Clinic in Savannah. Revellers were also entertained
with a gymnastics demonstration by Motions Unlimited.
