Gareth Bale is the English
Premiership player on everyone’s tongue at present after his heroics in the
Champions League against European kings Inter Milan and the electric Spurs
winger gets another chance to increase his market value at Bolton on Saturday.
Manchester United still haven’t
found their rhythm so it’s no wonder Bale is likely to be their prime target in
the January transfer window. United host Wolves which on paper should be a home
banker, but Mick McCarthy’s side are no pushovers anymore and Fergie’s boys
have not been impressive against the weaker sides so far this term.
On Sunday, the Arsenal-Newcastle
clash at the Emirates should be a goal-fest considering Newcastle smashed in
five past Sunderland last weekend and the Gunners create so many chances at
home. Mind you, by the way they laboured to beat West Ham last weekend at home,
they’ll need match winner Alex Song to be on song again.
The biggest game of the weekend is
Chelsea going to Anfield to test Liverpool’s fragile confidence and the club’s
patience with Reds boss Roy Hodgson. Chelsea have continued winning recently
but not as stylishly as in their opening games and if Liverpool can find the
same resolve as Blackburn who pushed the Blues all the way last week, they
might spring a surprise. There is always the Captain Marvel factor to consider
from Steven Gerrard who never ceases to run out of commitment for the cause
which is why he is their top scorer so far with three.
