Ten new Special Constables are now
ready to take to the streets of the Cayman Islands after successfully
completing a three-month recruit course.
The officers graduated at a
ceremony held on 3 November at the RCIPS Training and Development Unit,
Governors Square,
The intensive course included
class-based instruction in police and law-related subjects such as statement
taking, crimes and offences, crime scene management, public order law and
nutrition and physical health.
The officer, who devised and
delivered the course, Sergeant Kevin Ashworth, was delighted to see all of his
recruits complete the course and graduate.
“It has been an absolute pleasure
training such dedicated and enthusiastic members of the community as they
prepare for their new roles,” he said. “I met them all back in May when they
took part in the initial physical testing and since that date I have watched
them all develop and embrace the challenges laid before them.
“Wednesday’s graduation was the
culmination of all of their hard work and they rightly deserve to serve and
protect the communities of the Cayman Islands with pride.”
Carolyn Parker, assistant
commandant of the Special Constabulary, said: “This small group of individuals
has achieved a higher standard of training than any other Special Constabulary
recruits. They completed a physical endurance test, a written examination, and
interview process on par with entrance requirements of the RCIPS. They recorded
the highest academic scores in the history of the Special Constabulary – we are
all very proud of them.”
This latest recruit class brings
the total number of Special Constables to 89.
