JA edge out Lions

Challenge Trophy T/20 action
produced one of the most exciting matches witnessed in the Cayman Islands
between Jamaica and the England and Irish Lions at the Smith Road Oval on
Sunday.

It was a low scoring affair but the
drama unfolded to the last over. Batting first English and Irish Lions found
useful contributions from Chris Turner, Ian Rotsey and a cameo from Craig Scott
19 runs in 12 balls, but they were never able to accelerate towards the end.
Everyone said that 111 for 2 wickets was not enough.

Jamaica’s opener Garth Bryan and
Deno McInnis played excellent innings taking the score to 84 for 4 in the 14th
over. The match took another turn at the fall of both batsmen. With nine balls
remaining and the scores tied Jamaica’s last pair was at the wicket. The Lions
required one wicket to send the match to the super over. Tragedy struck for the
Lions as the last batsman was dropped and to the joy of the Jamaicans the last
pair took the run required.

Bryan is in a rich vein of form.
His all round performance launched Jamaica’s campaign on a winning note in the
2010 Challenge Trophy tournament the preview week against Australia.
