An accused hit-and-run driver appeared in court Monday afternoon on charges of causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
Mario Pereira, 28, is accused of striking 52-year-old Winston Welsh with his vehicle outside the Mango Tree bar in George Town on 12 November.
Pereira was arrested less than 48 hours after the crash and the Toyota Starlet involved in the hit-and-run was seized by police.
Magistrate Nova Hall allowed bail for Pereira after Crown prosecutors did not object. However, Pereira is not allowed to leave the Cayman Islands without first obtaining permission from the court.
He is due to appear in court again on 16 December.
The 12 November crash was the sixth fatal accident to occur in the Cayman Islands this year.
