Probation has been lifted on four licensed establishments following the most recent quarterly session of the Liquor Licensing Board of Grand Cayman.
Following a review of the probation period for Peppers Lounge, Durty Reid’s Palace, Rainbow Bar and Restaurant and District 6 Nightclub at the meeting on 7 June at Custom’s Headquarters, probation was lifted on all four establishments.
A number of applications were deferred at the meeting.
Further deferred new applications included that of Mr. Courtney Myles on behalf of the Cayman Islands Cricket Association, Smith Road Cricket Oval for a retail liquor licence and a music and dancing licence. Mr. Myles was absent from the meeting.
Also absent was Melba Nixon whose already deferred new application for a package liquor licence for Melba’s Duty Free, Departure Lounge at the Owen Roberts Airport, was further deferred. The objection against the application was not heard.
Also further deferred was an application from Raymond Whittaker of Vomfass Cayman Ltd. Royal Watler Cruise Terminal for both a package and retail liquor licence along with a Music and Dancing Licence. The applicant was not present and the objection was not heard.
A deferred new application for a Package Liquor Licence for Carlton R. McDoom of Hell Liquor Store, Club Inferno, Hell Road, West Bay was not granted.
However, a deferred new application by Marc I. Wood of Everglo Restaurant and Bar, Bodden Town for a retail liquor licence was granted. Mr. Wood said he would like to be able to serve alcohol without the need to serve food, as he currently must do with his restaurant category liquor licence.
An application from G. Burns Rutty for a retail liquor licence and a music and dancing licence for Pizza Hut at Grand Harbour, Red Bay was withdrawn.
Three new licence variation requests were not granted. One was from Prentice and Stanley Panton for Liquor 4 Less, Shedden Road, George Town for permission to operate until 7.30pm Monday to Saturday.
Another was from the same applicants for Block 4E, Parcel 11, West Bay for the removal of restrictions placed on a package (Duty Free) liquor licence and for permission to operate from 10am to 10pm Monday to Saturday.
The Pantons were not present, but Chairman Mitchell Welds said that it is not a requirement for an applicant to be present for a variation decision.
The third variation application that was not granted was from Mrs. Barbara Plathe for permission to open at 11am on Sundays at Block 9a, Parcel 12B, Morgan’s Harbour, West Bay.
One variation application that was deferred was from Davin G. Ebanks of 104 South Sound Road, George Town for the change of location of a retail liquor licence and a music and dancing licence to the Royal Watler Terminal Building, Units 4 & 12, George Town. The applicant was not present.
Granted was a variation from Ernest Parchment of Cohiba Lounge, Unit A15, Cayman Falls, West Bay Road for permission to operate until 2am on Fridays only. Mr. Parchment was not present.
In the case of an application for a variation for Kirk Duval and Rory Mohammed of District 6 Nightclub, The Strand, West Bay Road, for a change of licensee of a retail liquor licence and a music and dancing licence to Jaenas Pangilinan and James Laurenson, the licence was transferred only to Mr. Laurenson.
A deferred variation from Damian C. Bancroft of Puro Rey Cigars, Morritt’s Plaza, East End for the removal of restrictions placed on a Retail Liquor Licence and a Music and Dancing Licence was not granted. Mr. Bancroft was absent from the meeting.
Chairman’s decisions ratified included Mr. G. Hartwell Wood of Over the Edge Café in North Side for permission to open at 11am on Sundays.
Also ratified was the decision to grant the change of location of a distributor liquor licence to Bill Baldwin of Blackbeard’s Rum Company Ltd., Crewe Road to High and Dry Storage, Parcel 420 Ebony Lane, off Eastern Avenue, George Town.
Also ratified was the decision to grant John DF Bodden of Bodden’s Freeport, Owen Roberts International Airport, permission for the change of licensee of a package liquor licence to Karla J. Smith.
Also ratified was the change of licensee of a hotel liquor licence and a music and dancing licence for Steven Schwartz of Courtyard by Marriott, West Bay Road, to Mr. Jody Ward.
