Students of Miss Jackie’s School of Dance had their opportunity to shine on stage last Saturday night at Multiplicty.
The dance show extravaganza featured some 100 dancers performing a staggering 28 dances, ranging from traditional ballet to upbeat jazz and tap.
Split into three suites – Ballet, Gospel and Broadway and Beyond – the show featured dancers from as young as four to former students of the dance school from the 1970s.
The show’s opening number, The Blue Danube, performed by senior ballet students, showcased the dancers en pointe, setting the stage for a night of dance.
At almost three hours long, the show kept the audiences attention throughout. No doubt it was a thrill for family and friends to see members of the dance school back on stage after a three-year hiatus.
The gospel suite – performed by members of the Magnificat Club – proved a firm favourite with audience members as they cheered and clapped along.
Other pieces, which deserve a particular mention, include an exceptionally well-executed solo piece by Sophie Gough to the James Bond theme tune, Cayman Stomp, performed by the Freestyle class students, and the fun futuristic piece Elasticity, performed by the Let’s Dance students.
A musical interlude, including Once Upon a Dream, Art is Calling for Me and Summertime, performed by soprano singer Valerie Cobb, provided brief vocal entertainment, adding variety to the show.
The show, replete with elaborate stage costumes, finished with a grand finale, with Miss Jackie herself coming on stage to take a bow.
