I read your lead story, Builders storm prep criticised, with personal interest.
During Hurricane Ivan, there was a construction site next door to my home in Prospect.
Workmen were on the site working until late in the afternoon, but they did not make any preparations for the approaching storm by securing the loose lumber and debris on site. As a result my roof suffered punctures from flying debris in two places, causing the ceiling in two of my bedrooms to collapse from pouring rain.
After the storm, it seemed that all of the lumber from the construction site was washed onto my front, side and backyard. The persons in charge of the construction made no effort to remove the debris from my yard, and I had to foot the expense of removal. It took about three full truckloads to accomplish this. Nor did I get an apology or any word or regret from anyone connected with the site.
After the storm I had to pay for temporary roof remediation to stay off further flooding from threatening skies and thereafter replace ply and over half of my roof tiles which cost in excess of CI$14,000.
