The planning committee of the Young Caymanian Leadership Awards has announced that the 2008 Gala Awards night will be on Saturday, 16 February.
The annual event, now in its eighth year, will once again be held in the grand ballroom at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
‘The YCLA is awarded annually to the best of our young leaders, therefore it is most fitting that the event be held in a venue that signifies the highest degree of excellence,’ Melissa Wolfe of the Young Caymanian Leaders Foundation said in a press release.
As with previous years, the awards ceremony portion of the evening’s festivities will be broadcast live on Cayman27.
Five finalists will be selected later this year and honoured during the 2008 YCLA. A well guarded secret, the overall recipient is announced during the live telecast on 26 February.
‘We are thrilled that the YCLA board has again selected us as the venue for this prestigious event,’ said Mary Kelly, Director of Meetings and Special Events at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.
‘It a great honour to help YCLA recognize the achievements of young Caymanians and as event professionals we particularly appreciate how their creative event themes serve to further celebrate authentic elements of Caymanian culture and values.’
The Young Caymanian Leaders Foundation established the Young Caymanian Leadership Awards in 1999. The first YCLA show to recognize young Caymanians was broadcast live to the community in early 2000.
Previous recipients of the YCLA are Olivaire Watler in 2000, Dax Foster in 2001, Sara in Collins in 2002, Steve Blair in 2003, Cindy Scotland in 2004, Jonathan Tibbetts in 2006 and Canover Watson in 2007.
Last year’s YCLA sold-out over a month prior to the event.
FYI
Nominations for the 2008 YCLA will open in mid-September. Anyone from the community can nominate a young Caymanian leader, including co-workers, employers, employees, family members and friends. All nominations are evaluated by a subcommittee of the honorary board of directors and the five finalists are announced in December.
