WB Heritage Park not moving

The potential loss of the West Bay Heritage Day site to the construction of the new Beulah Smith High School in West Bay was cause for consternation for the West Bay Heritage Association, but the issue has now been temporarily resolved.

The group has learned it will be able to remain on its current premises for the West Bay Heritage Day activities, set to take place during Pirates Week, being held this year on 15 November.

‘We were worried that we would have to find a new spot for Heritage Day this year, but the situation has been resolved for now,’ says Association chair Eziethamae Bodden.

The group has learned it will not have to relocate the Heritage Day event until 2008, as construction on the school site is not scheduled to commence until after the conclusion of Pirates Week.

And earlier concerns about where the group will relocate appear to have a solution. The Government is in negotiations to purchase a new Heritage Day site across the road, next to the Ed Bush Stadium.

West Bay MLA Cline Glidden raised the relocation issue at a recent session of the Legislative Assembly on behalf of the Association.

While Mr. Glidden says some members of the committee felt the new premises promised to the Association were small for their purposes, Ms Bodden says the size of the site is deemed sufficient and the group is satisfied.
