Honda cars are being targeted in a spate of thefts across Grand Cayman, police have warned.

Police said there had been eight vehicles stolen over the week ending 19 June, mostly in George Town, Bodden Town and West Bay.

“Most of the offences were reported to have occurred during the early morning hours.

“In some incidents, the suspects appeared to have gained access using external methods as the vehicles were reported to be secured by the owners,” police noted in a press release.

The Cayman Compass asked police what they believe is behind the upsurge in thefts, but they have not yet responded.

The majority of the cars were said be Hondas dating from the late 1990s to early 2000s, although other makes have also been stolen.

Police said two of the cars had been traced and recovered, adding that drivers should park in well-lit, busy areas and make sure that their vehicles are properly locked before they are left unattended.

Police noted that extra security measures, such as wheel locks, should be considered and that CCTV at homes could help prevent car theft, as well as other crimes.

Anyone with information on what they believe to be a stolen vehicle should call 911.

Rise in car thefts last summer

Police last summer highlighted a string of similar thefts, also involving several older Honda models and said they believed some were taken to be broken up for spare parts.

They said 18 theft or attempted thefts had happened in July 2025 alone and that a teenager had been arrested in connection with parts taken from a stolen car.

The force listed 10 missing vehicles, seven of them Honda cars or motorbikes, including two CR-V SUVs and two Civic hatchbacks.

Two other motorbikes, a Kawasaki and a Yamaha, were also taken, along with a 2010 BMW X1 SUV.
