Two tropical depressions formed in the Atlantic Basin on Wednesday morning, but neither is expected to impact the Cayman Islands.
Of the two, only Tropical Depression Eight has the potential of coming close to the Cayman Islands. As of Wednesday morning, it was about 1,130 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
NOAA’s National Hurricane Centre predicted the storm to continue its general motion with a decrease in forward speed through Thursday.
On the predicted path, TD8 would pass near or north of Puerto Rico.
However, some of the major computer models do have the storm taking a more southern route and entering the Caribbean Sea.
Tropical Depression Nine, with sustained winds of 35mph, was located in the Gulf of Mexico about 85 miles south-southwest of Galveston, Texas, on Wednesday morning.
A tropical storm warning was issued Wednesday for parts of the Texas and Louisiana coasts. Rain was already falling in the two states, and forecasters warned it could cause flooding.
It was heading north at about six mph and was expected to make landfall in Texas on Wednesday night.
Both TD8 and TD9 were expected by NOAA to intensify to tropical storms on Wednesday, getting the names Humberto and Ingrid.
