UCCI president gives assurance

I would like to address the issue of two recent incidents involving three of our students and some external miscreants.

First and foremost I must inform you that our students involved in the incident are recovering well and we hope to see them back on the campus shortly.

UCCI has decided to respond firmly and effectively to these incidents and following is the summary of the measure that we have taken:

Campus security officers The campus security staff has been increased to three officers patrolling the campus at various points. This is to ensure complete coverage and to keep away any undesired elements from entering the campus.

RCIPS presence and regular patrols – Although this was our least favourite option, we have allowed RCIP to post an officer on the campus with regular RCIP patrol cars visiting the campus at various intervals all through the day and night. This is to caution and deter any potential miscreants from approaching the campus.

Closed circuit camera surveillance – Surveillance cameras are being installed at various points on the campus to record any such potential incidents. Signs will be posted at visible points to make public aware of the surveillance cameras on the campus.

Security barrier and registration of visitors – All visitors entering the campus will be stopped at the security barrier being set-up on the road leading to the entrance gate. Visitors will be asked to register and state their business before entering the campus.

Car stickers – UCCI will be issuing car stickers for staff/faculty and students to identify cars entering the campus. This is to ensure that we have legitimate visitors on the campus. All cars entering the campus without a UCCI decal will be stopped at the security check point and will be registered before entering the premises.

UCCI ID cards – All staff, faculty and students are issued with a secure ID card from the office of the provost. In view of the recent incident, all members of the UCCI community shall be required to wear the UCCI ID at all times while on the campus. We do apologise for this but it is in the best interest of all members of our learning community to ensure that only valid visitors remain on the campus.

Please remember UCCI has been and will be a place of peaceful learning.

We have maintained a free spirited and liberal environment that allows scholarship and fresh ideas to flow.

Let us not allow anyone to disturb our peaceful way of life.

We must take ownership of the situation and let any potential trouble makers know that there is no place for disturbance or violence on our campus.

We must defend our values and way of life furiously.

I look forward to your help and cooperation in maintaining our campus a peaceful heaven for learning.

Rest assured that I will be relentless in keeping all potential miscreants away from UCCI. I wish you all a wonderful, happy and safe learning environment.
