The Cayman Islands Cycling Association is holding another ‘social race’ this weekend.
Organiser Gary Clark said: ‘It’s labeled a social race to encourage everyone at varying levels to participate. We will ride as a group up to Pease Bay (Moon Bay condos) for the official start. The challenge is to complete at least one non-stop loop (45 miles), or if someone is really up to the ultimate challenge of completing the two loops (65 miles) they can.’ It starts at Hurley’s Grand Harbour on Sunday at 7am.
Clark wants all riders to try to pull together some cycling mates and form little groups to help the cause. He added: ‘There will be no support cars provided so please ensure you have sufficient fuel or money to make stops if needed. Ride with care and respect the road laws. Since it is classified as a social race there will be no prizes awarded – only bragging rights! A donation of $5 is welcomed to help the growth of the association.’
One rider who will be taking the event more seriously than others is Brian Chinyee who only joined the club a couple of months ago. He will probably have a tough battle with top rider Jerome Ameline.
Chinyee said: ‘This is very exciting. This is the first time the club is doing such a race. I’m looking forward to seeing how various individuals do. My training consists of very long mileage and speed spurts and I expect it to turn into a very competitive ride. I’m keen to win and want to see what the others bring to the table.’
