Overcast skies proved no deterrent to early morning exercise enthusiasts as the 2007 FIDELITY Fun Run Series came to a close last weekend.
Indeed, numbers continued to increase, as 115 runners, joggers, walkers, and pram pushers crossed the finish line.
Tabulation of final results showed a combination of the predicatble, mixed in with several surprises.
Overall male and female series champions were Russell Coleman and Beth Schreader, who maintained their high level performances throughout the three competitions. However, a new face emerged on the local running scene on Saturday as recent arrival Scott Brittain served notice that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Smooth-striding Brittain cruised the 2-mile loop course in 10 minutes, and 3 seconds, with Russell second in 10:31, and series male runnerup Marius Acker finishing in 10:56.
Teenagers Kedeen Foster and Marlon Crowe came up with results that could augur well for Cayman’s distance events prospects at upcoming international competitions. Kedeen improved her finishing position at each opportunity, ending with the top ladies result for the final outing in 12:54, and second overall for the series. Beth clocked 13:01., and Lauretta Bennett jumped up to third in the ladies category on this occasion with a mark of 13:06.Laura Knox’s 13:30 was good for fourth this time, and was sufficient to earn her the third-place ladies trophy.
Marlon’s efforts allowed him the right to take home the trophy for third place overall in the male category.
