Island Vet helps Katrina pets

Island Veterinary Services recently collected more than $3,700 for Hurricane Katrina’s Animal Relief Fund overseas.

The staff got together and decided they would start selling blue bracelets with ‘I Saved A Pet’ written on them to raise money and awareness.

The money raised went to various relief funds in the US, mostly to New Orleans.

‘Island Veterinary was so grateful for all the donations we received after Ivan, and wanted to be able to return the favour,’ said Dr. Brenda Bush, a veterinarian.

‘The campaign was a success and all funds raised went directly towards those animals in need, through various animal rescue organisations and shelters,’ Dr. Bush said. ‘Every little bit helps.’

Island Veterinary Services continues to sell the bracelets and encourages people to donate.

Hurricane Katrina charged through the south-easterly region of the United States last August, causing catastrophe in states such as Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

As a result, many animals were injured, traumatized, displaced and/or abandoned and are still in need of help.
