As far as I understand, the agreement signed between the United Kingdom and the Cayman Islands Government in 2001, stated that there would not be discrimination against adults who participate in homosexual behavior in private.
As the cruise ship, which docked 31 January, publicly promotes homosexual behavior I believe that to deny this ship’s entry would not go against the agreement signed in 2001, as long as the individuals of this ship were invited to visit Cayman by other means, which did not publicly promote homosexuality.
If Cayman wishes to continue to consider itself a Christian nation, it should not be allowing passage to any organization that actively promotes homosexuality, adultery, theft, violence, or any other action which is condemned by God.
God hates the sin, yet loves the sinner, which is why the invitation should be extended to those gay individuals to return to Cayman by other means.
We all fall short of God’s expectations, so none of us has the authority to condemn these individuals.
However, as Christians, we do have a responsibility not to accept the vehicles which promote sin.
Like Cayman, Canada was founded on Christian ethics. In order to accommodate the diverse religious backgrounds that now exist in Canada, the government has become increasingly secular. As a result Canada now recognizes gay marriages and most recently has legalized swingers clubs (clubs that promote the swapping of sexual partners).
I could also argue that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms allows me to use the women’s washroom. To disallow me to use the washroom of the opposite sex would be discrimination based on my gender. At what point do we draw the line on ‘human rights’?
God put rules in place not to spoil our fun, but to prevent us from hurting others and from hurting ourselves. Although many feel that homosexuality does not hurt anyone, this is something that is better left to God’s judgment.
Man’s law will always be changing to suit what is fashionable in the present day society. However, God’s law is founded on universal truths, which do not change with time. Caymanians have to decide whether they want to follow suit with the majority of the English-speaking world by deciding to separate Church and state, or they can choose to elect politicians who wish to govern these islands in accordance with God’s will.
Finally, and most importantly, we must remember that while we do what we can to eliminate the vessels that bring sin to our islands, we must at the same time show tolerance and compassion for those individuals which are in violation of God’s commandments. After all, none of us are free of sin. As Christ said, ‘first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye’.
