We have all enjoyed the entertainment and informative functions at the Lions Centre over the years.
But unfortunately as the Cayman Islands has grown, the centre has become inadequate for many functions.
That’s not news to anyone, especially the owners of the centre, the Lions Club of Grand Cayman.
And club members are wise enough to realize that changes have to be made.
That’s why it is so refreshing to learn that plans are under way to equip Grand Cayman with a larger, up-to-date community centre.
The motto of the club is We Serve. And the Lions club has done, well, its lion’s share of work to serve the community of the Cayman Islands.
Ensuring that we have an adequate convention-type centre to hold various events like concerts and the Chamber of Commerce Expo is just another way club members are showing Cayman that they care.
And club members aren’t just jumping into this project unprepared.
They’ve made the rounds to other Lions Clubs to find out which ones have built similar community structures.
They also contacted convention centre managers in large US cities and in doing so have commissioned a Las Vegas consulting firm to help build the facility here.
Club members have also made sure they have input from the private and public sectors in Cayman that benefit from the use of the centre.
Because the centre is used by many in the private sector, it may be that the corporate community is called upon to help financially.
The annual Chamber of Commerce Business Expo is a prime example of the benefit the Lions Centre affords the business community.
It’s not unusual for young businesses starting out to get a foothold in the corporate world through the Expo or for existing businesses to successfully launch new products.
So it’s only right that the corporate community should be willing to step up to the plate to help the Lions Club get a new centre under way.
