CEO praises Park staff

Mr. Gilbert Connolly, CEO of the Tourism Attractions Board, had high praise for the people who helped put the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park back together again.

At the re-opening ceremony last Saturday, he told his audience, ‘We are here today because of the devastating effect Hurricane Ivan had on the Botanic Park.’ But, for people who had toured the Park before the ceremony, it was hard to imagine the extent of the damage. Rebuilding had been challenging and costly.

Adversity builds character, he commented, and Hurricane Ivan was by far the biggest adversity the Park has faced. ‘The staff and management of the Park have shown outstanding character in rebuilding the Park,’ he said, ‘and I thank them for their hard work.’

Mr. Connolly also cited general manager Mr. Andrew Guthrie for his ‘proven track record of leadership and commitment to the Botanic Park’ over the past ten years.

Mr. Guthrie also thanked the staff for working so hard, even though, ‘Like many, they had personal difficulties after the storm.’
