The Community Policing Department recently conducted a three-week driver’s education pilot programme at Cayman Brac High School.
The programme was geared specifically at promoting safe driving on the island, especially among the young people.
Headed by Windsor Park beat officer Cst. Cornelius Pompey and Prospect beat officer Cst. Eberton Spence, the initiative was launched as a result of the rising number of accidents and fatalities among young people in the Cayman Islands.
Year 12 students shared their experiences and expressed their appreciation for the programme with the officers.
Officer Spence noted similar programmes will be conducted in the middle and high schools on Grand Cayman beginning the next school term in September.
The programmes will be a joint effort between police and the MattSafe organization, a non-profit group which works to promote safe teen driving.
