Cayman band aid flood victims

A recent concert in Tampa, featuring Cayman’s Tradewinds band among others, raised US$8,000 for flood relief victims in Guyana.

Organised by Guyanese promoter Ray Seales, highlighted a range of Caribbean talent including artists from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados.

All performers donated their talents, with the Tradewinds appearance made possible by Cayman Airways donating tickets for the group’s travel. The airline also donated two Tampa-Cayman tickets as the major door prize of the evening.

Held at the University of Tampa, the event attracted around 1,000 people.

‘It was inspiring to see the turn-out and to have all these artists meeting for such a cause,’ said Tradewinds’ bandleader Dave Martins. ‘We are very grateful to Cayman Airways for their contribution. It’s good to see this kind of outreach from Caribbean people when some of us are in need.

‘Guyana has been hard hit by floods lasting over three weeks and this money will provide a lot of help for a lot of people.’

The Tradewinds members are Mr. Martins, Clive Rosteing, Jeff Japal, Richard Terry and Harry Cupid, with sound engineer Irving Hernandez. The band will perform again 30 July in the Cropover Festival in Barbados.
