Bars, restaurants must be inspected

With the 1 August deadline for submitting liquor licence renewals quickly approaching, the Liquor Licensing Board of Grand Cayman is announcing an important change in the process.

‘We are now requiring businesses applying for renewal to include in their applications the official inspection reports,’ says Board Chairman Mitchell Welds. ‘This change was necessary as we have identified many businesses which reopened after Hurricane Ivan but neglected to obtain the required inspections. This is crucial not only because it is the law but because many premises received major damages during the hurricane and we are require to ensure safety for all patrons. The inspections, which include fire, environmental health and planning, must be completed and approved prior to reopening.’

The board acknowledges however, that there are still many premises that will not be able to rebuild and reopen prior to the 1 August deadline, states a GIS press release. Those businesses are requested to contact the board as soon as possible to declare their future intentions.

Those who have not been inspected should immediately contact the secretary of the board, Ms Marva Scott-Dunbar, at 525-7893.
