Ivan slumps air arrivals

Hurricane Ivan’s effects have reduced air arrivals for the first quarter of 2005, down 56.2 per cent compared to last year.

Cruise arrivals are down 13.85 per cent for the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2004.

The tourist arrival statistics have just been released by the Department of Tourism for January, February and March 2005.

However, cruise arrival figures for February 2005 are up 4.63 per cent on the 2004 equivalent while March 2005’s cruise arrival figure is also up 9.42 per cent on 2004’s figure for that month.

Total air arrivals for the first quarter of 2005 were 41,613 compared to 94,959 for the same period in the previous year.

Total cruise arrivals for the first quarter of 2005 were 543,683, compared to a figure of 631,091 for the same period the year before.

January 2005 air arrivals totalled 9,601 passengers, down 62.6 per cent on the 2004 equivalent of 25,689.

February 2005’s air arrival figure of 13,202 is down 58.8 per cent on 2004’s equivalent figure of 32,022.

March 2005’s air arrival figure is 18,810, down 49.5 per cent on 2004’s equivalent figure of 37,248.

January 2005’s cruise arrival figure of 170,961 is down 17.57 per cent on the previous January’s figure of 207,411.

February 2005’s cruise arrival figure of 201,761 is up 4.63 per cent on the 2004 figure of 192,840.

March 2005’s figure of 252,586 is also up 9.42 per cent on 2004’s figure of 230,840.
