Not withstanding academic interest only, the final match of the Money Express Division One competition was not without animation as a century by Will Gardener enabled Greenies to overcome By-Rite when they played last Sunday at J.P.O.
By- Rite batted first and posted an engaging total of 207-5 in the 40 overs allotted. A healthy total at this level. Ainsley Hall top scored with an unbeaten 59; Chris Wright got 53 and Jalon Linton made 35.
A thought on Linton. It is this writer’s opinion that Linton needs to work on the mental side of his game for his scores to be commensurate with his batting aptitude. He is too good a player to be continually making 30’s and 40’s. Bowling for Greenies, Hector Robinson, returning from a prolonged injury accounted for a couple of wickets with his steady medium pace. When Greenies batted, Gardener’s dauntless effort was well supported by Abali Hoilett, Satahoo and O’Hare who were all involved in some useful partnerships to ensure that Greenies got home with two overs pending.
Division Two
A spirited performance by Clive Sailsman earned Esso victory over Greenies in a Money Express Division Two game Saturday. Esso batted first and were dismissed for 148. Sailsman top scored with 43, extras were 38 and Conroy Wright was undefeated on 31. Satahoo had the miserly figures of 7-2, 20-3 while Tim Hepburn assisted with 3 for 24. When Greenies batted, they were hemmed in by some stingy bowling from the Esso, especially spinners Sailsman and Higgins, who in tandem conceded 29 runs from their combined effort of 16 overs .Runs being frugal, occasioned the Greenies to risk the impossible, resulting in 3 runouts. The key one being opener Tim Bridges, (45) whose duty it was to utilize his start and transform it into a match winner. This did not happen. They folded at 142. Winfair’s handy total of 209-5 could not stop them from succumbing to the might of Welly’s I.C.C. last Saturday at the J.P.O. when the Money Express Division Two competition continued Winfair’s total was owed mainly to 90 n.o. by M. Neita (his second successive half century) 45 by L. Grant and 32 by M. Edwards. Welly’s easily knocked off the required runs (210-5) with 5 overs in the bag. The obdurate Sohan Chambers fell 14 short of his century; Miguel Palmer got 41, Abali Hoilett made 29 and Captain Wason steered the ship home with an undefeated
