A forthcoming bilateral travel conference is looking to attract exhibitors/suppliers of tourism products from Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as more than 100 US buyers to the 7-9 September conference in Houston.
‘La Cumbre, with the support of Continental Airlines, has solidified its position as the first bilateral travel-industry conference in the Americas,’ said a Continental press release.
The airline has pledged its support in a two-year agreement, whereby its domestic and international sales teams will work closely with La Cumbre to recruit suppliers from countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The agreement is effective for this year’s event in Houston, Continental’s primary hub, said the release.
La Cumbre, also known as the Americas Summit, began its transition into a bilateral conference in 2002, when it welcomed the first exhibitors from Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean.
Since then, La Cumbre, promoting itself as ‘One Market, One Event’, has enjoyed repeat participation by various Latin and Caribbean suppliers.
This year, as travel and tourism buyers and suppliers from both hemispheres gather in Houston, La Cumbre celebrates the culmination of its efforts
‘It’s been 10 years since La Cumbre was first in Houston, and during that time our industry has witnessed unimaginable changes,’ said Rick Still, industry vice president/Americas, Reed Travel Exhibitions, the show’s organizer.
‘Our ability to respond to this rapidly evolving market and provide buyers and suppliers with quality new business opportunities is our primary responsibility.’
‘Having the 2005 La Cumbre conference in Houston gives the city and Continental Airlines a fantastic opportunity to showcase our increasing importance as a gateway to Latin America,” said Pete García, staff vice president, Latin America, Continental Airlines.
“Every week, we operate nearly 700 flights from our hub at IAH to Latin America and the Caribbean – now more than 20 per cent of all our destinations. The airport’s new state-of-the-art International Arrivals Building is the fastest and most modern federal inspection facility in the US
‘Delegates attending La Cumbre will find a travel partner in Continental, which serves 65 destinations in 24 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean,’ he said.
The gathering will be at the George R. Brown Convention Center with the Hilton-Americas Houston and the Hyatt Regency Houston as headquarters hotels.
La Cumbre is the premier travel-industry conference for the sales and marketing of travel to the Americas, hosting approximately 1,500 delegates for what is the largest and most comprehensive gathering of travel professionals from throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, and the Iberian Peninsula, the release said.
More than 30 countries are represented, with the largest delegations traditionally from the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.
