Minister Eden tours HSA

Minister for Health Services Anthony Eden recently toured the halls of the Cayman Islands Hospital, stating his commitment to improve the country’s health services.

‘I was touched by the warm reception of the hospital staff,’ said Mr. Eden, who spoke with patients and staff from almost every section of the hospital.

During his visit, Mr. Eden discussed HSA strengths and areas requiring improvement and sought staff input on how to achieve better service, said a GIS press release.

Discussion topics included mental health chronic-patient care, the sourcing of a new MRI machine and a stronger focus on public education.

‘Educating our clients will help them maximise the services we have on offer,’ Acting Chief Executive Officer Shirlene Henriques told the Minister.

Mr. Eden was pleased to see clear signs of progress in the heavily Ivan-damaged forensic unit, and he also visited the DNA lab that will become operational shortly after the new DNA specialist comes on staff at the end of this month, the release said.

The tour concluded with the Minister addressing all hospital workers at a meeting. He reassured staff that the Ministry was aware of their challenges and he pledged his support in creating a viable strategic plan for the future.

‘The immediate future represents a dynamic and exciting time for health services. I look forward to working with the Board to ensure the service delivered is of the highest standard and that customer service continually exceeds patient expectations. I have full confidence in the dedicated staff’s ability to make HSA a credit to the Cayman Islands,’ he said.

Having heard from the Minister, staff had the opportunity to express particular concerns and Mr. Eden promised that the ministry would work with management to address these areas as together they planned the way forward, the release said.
