As efforts toward recovery from Hurricane Ivan continue to focus on housing, Chairman of the National Recovery Fund, the Governor, Mr. Bruce Dinwiddy, and Mrs. Emma Dinwiddy hosted a dinner for members of the private sector to drum up further fundraising support for the Fund.
Held at the Governor’s residence on 3 June, the dinner was also an opportunity to introduce the fundraising team from Community Counselling Services – an international fundraising consulting firm that has been contracted by the Fund to direct fundraising efforts both locally and internationally, said a press release from the National Recovery Fund
The Governor noted that although much rebuilding and restoration had been achieved since Ivan, housing remains a critical area. He appealed to a renewed effort towards contributing to the Fund.
The Governor also took the opportunity to thank outgoing executive director, Mrs. Angela Martins, for her work with the Fund. Mrs. Martins moves on to the Ministry of Education where she will serve as Permanent Secretary from 1 July. She has a continuing role with the Fund as Chairman of the Fundraising Committee. Mrs. Martins is succeeded by Dr. Mark Laskin.
Mrs. Martins also appealed for broader support of the Fund, noting that the quality of life of hundreds of Cayman’s resident still hangs in the balance without property living conditions.
Stating that he was looking forward to developing a successful fundraising campaign for the National Recovery Fund, Vice President of CCS, Tom Hanrahan, provided a brief outline of the services provided by his company, including fundraising campaign planning and management, development audits and feasibility and planning studies.
Responding to the appeal for donations, Mr. Sam Guiffire, Senior Vice President, Boston Private Bank Trust Company and a regular visitor to the island, along with his wife Mrs. Dorothy Guiffre, presented a cheque to the Governor, as their contribution to the recovery efforts.
