It was encouraging to see Tourism Minister Charles Clifford and PS Tim Hubbell at the tourism conference in Miami, standing in front of the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism booth (front page photo, 28 June).
Let us hope that they brought home CAST’s excellent educational materials on sustainable tourism, and that this government will practice the precepts of sustainable tourism rather than simply mouthing the words.
It is never easy for governments to accept that uncontrolled growth is not compatible with sustainability (and that includes the tourism sector), but if our new government can swallow that bitter pill, we will be on the right road.
