The Esso Blazers blazed to victory in the inaugural Nothin’ but Net Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament held at Grand Harbour. The Blazers used a strong inside game to edge Ether in Saturday’s final, 21-19.
The Blazers were led by the standout play of tournament MVP Jerome Narcisse.
The Nothin’ but Net tournament was sponsored by Castaways Grille, Cayman Airways and Cingular.
‘We will definitely do this every year,’ said organiser Ken Moore. ‘It was very competitive and the players came out with just the right spirit. The final was very close; either team could have won.’
Moore says he would like to see women’s teams added to the field next year.
He created the tournament as a way to contribute something positive to the community and believes the event has the potential for significant growth, possibly attracting top US players. Three-on-three tournaments have proven to be very popular in the US.
Moore currently is seeking a sponsor to keep the Grand Harbour basketball court open year round for people to use free of charge.
