Camana Bay having open house

The developers of Camana Bay will hold another open house on Tuesday, 27 September for construction contractors interested in learning more about the multi-phased, multi-decade master planned community.

This open house follows up one held in early May to introduce contractors to the project.

‘It’s the same idea as the first one,’ said Cameron Graham, vice president construction for the developers. ‘Only this time we have more specific information on bid packages and things like that.’

The first phase of Camana Bay will include more than 400,000 square feet under roof, including office, residential, retail and other commercial space. There will also be a school.

The McAlpine construction company has already commenced work on an 80,000 square foot office building and 455 car parking garage. Hadsphaltic has begun the ground work for the six-plex cinema.

Eight other projects will get under way over the next year, Mr. Graham said. Contractors can review updated project drawing, specification lists and schedules for these projects at the open house.

‘This is a continuing effort to involve the local construction community in the Camana Bay project,’ Mr. Graham said.

The open house is not only open to contractors, but also to other construction-related businesses such as building materials suppliers and concrete companies, Mr. Graham said.

After the open house on the 27th, Mr. Graham will conduct three days of individual meetings with contractors.

‘I want to meet people face-to-face to explain in more detail what we’re about, and find out what they can and can not do as it relates to the project,’ Mr. Graham said.

Recently, Mr. Graham spoke with members of the Cayman Contractors Association about the project.

‘We want to recognize what they represent, so they will get priority in terms of the (individual meeting) appointments.’

Mr. Graham acknowledged that there has been some concern about the role Fluor Daniel (Caribbean) has at the Camana Bay site.

‘Fluor is simply providing project management services, consisting of things like estimating, planning, procurement and design management,’ he said. ‘We have around six Fluor people now, and we will probably have up to a dozen eventually.’

The open house will take place from 9am to 7pm in the jobsite trailers off of Esterley Tibbetts Highway.
