Whittaker to fight gangster turned preacher

Tickets are now on sale for the Charles ‘The Killa’ Whittaker/Servando Perales fight scheduled for Saturday, 22 October, at Kings Sports Centre.

The Cayman fighter will be taking on Perales in a 10-rounder bout for the WBC Caribbean Federation Junior Middleweight Title.

Perales is from Omaha, Nebraska, and is a former gang leader turned preacher who takes kids off the street and teaches them how to box. His record as a professional is 13 wins, 5 losses. Perales has won his last three fights.

Charles is from the Cayman Islands. Since turning professional in March 1993, Charles has earned three belts – WBA Caribbean Junior Middleweight Champion, IBO international Junior Middleweight Champion and NBA Junior Middleweight Championship. His record is 26 wins, 11 losses and 16KO’s.

The co-event also promises to be a humdinger for boxing fans. Derrick Moon will be taking on Brant Skyler in the junior welterweight division in an eight-rounder. Moon is from Fort Worth, Texas, and is making his second trip to Cayman. He was one of the fighters in the last fight staged in the Cayman Islands. His record as a professional is 10 wins, 10 losses. Brant Skyler, who is from Lake Worth, Florida, is a veteran of the game and is looking to spoil Moon’s return to Cayman. His record as a professional is 12 wins, 8 losses. The third professional fight of the evening, billed as a special attraction, is in the welterweight division and goes for four rounds. Benjamin Kalinovic, who comes from Vasteraas, Sweden, is a relative newcomer to professional boxing – this will be his second fight. Kalinovic, though, is no novices to the sport of boxing. As an amateur he captured gold, silver and bronze medals in Europe. His opponent will be announced soon. ‘I am looking forward to this fight. I want this belt so bad that I can taste it. I will be ready, because I want to show the Cayman people that I am their champion,’ Whittaker said. He also thanked everyone for their support, including the sponsors and the president of the CI Boxing Association, Garth Ebanks.
