New sports bar set for Treasure Island

A new sports bar and restaurant is opening at the Treasure Island Resort.

The Clubhouse is being constructed in the space previously occupied by a series of restaurants including Bed, Home and Changs, said Harry Lalli of the resort.

“Our tag line is going to be ‘finally every sports team has got a home,’” he said.

The resort itself is going to run it, whereas previously we leased out that space and we had restaurants come and go,” Mr. Lalli said. “But we definitely need a place where we can offer breakfast for our guests. A lot of people frequent Billy Bones and Treasure Island, the younger expat community. To live at Treasure Island is very popular with people in the hospitality industry. They are shorts, T-shirts and flip flop guys and this is a bar they can feel comfortable in.

“A lot of the clientele that lives at Treasure Island is more apt to eating at a sports bar menu rather than a gourmet restaurant. We’ve got over 20 hi-definition TVs in there, full satellite coverage and it’s the first sports bar where you can have your own TV in the Cayman Islands.

The bar has the largest TV screen on the Seven Mile strip, as well as a 55-foot bar, the longest on the island. After the rainy season we hope to extend it outside and add another 12 to 15 feet,” he said.

Familiar menu

The food will be familiar to people who have frequented another of Mr. Lalli’s establishments, he said.

“Our menu will be simple and sports-minded; the same guys who work at Doghouse have put it together and Jason Moir from Aqua Beach is the guy steering the ship as restaurant manager,” Mr. Lalli said.

The Clubhouse is the latest renovation for Treasure Island following the relocation of the micro mart to a larger location on the complex which also features a coffee bar.

“We expanded into the coffee house with Cubita coffee and the mart has all the amenities and basics from alcohol to soap, cleaning supplies and food,” he said. “It’s something you can run in and get what you need, also on Sunday when the grocery shops are closed.” As a result, the space formerly occupied by the mini mart is now an art gallery and exhibition space, said Mr. Lalli, where local artists are able to show their wares.
