Over the last month dart players have checked out a new venue. Now they have more incentive to play at a local resort.
The Grand Caymanian is now offering two-night staycations for the winners of its weekly blind draw tournament. The decision was made this month and the first winners were Filipino star Mel Tagalog and countryman Richie Bernaldo.
Henry Piarrot, general manager for The Grand Caymanian, stated in passing that the staycations were a surprise.
“I surprised the tournament winners last Friday with two-night staycations for each of them,” Piarrot said. “We’re pleased to announce that the last Friday of every month will see two-night staycations awarded to the winning team.”
Tagalog and Bernaldo earned their props ahead of another Filipino duo in Jasper Esguerra and Cezar Hamto. The weekly competition, which sees pairs organized through a random draw, normally has a sizeable crowd of around 20 spectators and 16 players.
News of the staycation prizes comes after The Grand Caymanian hosted last week’s Cayman Islands Darts Association annual general meeting. Paul Anglin was re-elected to the post of president with Miriam Rodriguez and Michelle Cullen returning as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. New to the board is Frank Martyr, who takes over the role of vice president from Richard Campbell. Cassius Anglin is the new Venue Inspector, taking over for Eddie Ballantyne.
