All Stars host Floridian slammers

A visiting team from Florida will battle some of Cayman’s best dominoes players.

The

Island All-Star Domino Club will be putting on a dominoes tournament featuring a team from South Florida this weekend 23-25 September.

On Friday, 23 September, there will be a match with the visitors against pairs selected from the various local domino clubs on the Island. Temperature Lounge (formerly Corner Pocket Bar) hosts that contest starting at 8pm. On Saturday and Sunday members of the All-Star club will battle the visitors at Mango Tree. Saturday’s match starts from 4pm while Sunday’s contest gets going from 12noon. The awards presentation takes place at roughly 8pm on Sunday.

All-Star president Derek Elliott Senior states the competition is about fostering playing skills in Cayman.

“We were expecting Jamaica and Canada to be represented too,” Elliott Senior said. “But they were not able to make it and will come at a later date. We’re expecting an exciting tournament from which the return leg will take place in Ft. Lauderdale next February. “The games are about trying to give other clubs exposure. In the future there are plans for a national side with players from all of the various teams involved in the local dominoes league.”
