Edsell returns to form

Edsell Haylock may have been on hiatus from darts for awhile. However the West Bay legend has not lost his touch.

Haylock, 34, was the big winner at the weekly blind draw doubles tournament. Taking place every Friday at the Grand Caymanian resort, Haylock teamed up with Filipino player Cezar Homto to nab first place. Paul Anglin (the president of the Cayman Islands Darts Association) and Ricky Bodden would come second.

Haylock, who was the Caribbean champion of darts three years ago, had debated a decision to retire from the sport. Last year he stated that coming back to darts from a long layoff is an easy proposition.

“I’m ready, I feel ready,” Haylock said. “If you’re mentally ready you’re ready. The physical skills are always there. It’s like riding a bike.”

Haylock’s victory is the latest news in the ongoing tournament. The Grand Caymanian has proven to be serious about darts, even offering two-night staycations at the resort for competition winners. Most of the top players in the sport have headed out to the West Bay road establishment such as Mel Tagalog and Jasper Esguerra. The weekly competition, which sees pairs organized through a random draw, normally has a sizeable crowd of around 20 spectators and 16 players.
