Local motorsports launches November off with a drag race.
The Cayman Islands Drag Racing Association will be staging its Monster Dash event on Sunday, 6 November. Breakers Speedway will host the action from roughly 3pm.
The meet was put off from last weekend due to inclement weather. The association expects favourable conditions this time around and in the event of heavy rains, plans will be made accordingly. Outside of the elements, the logistics remain the same. General admission is $5, a pit pass is available for $10 and racers will pay $25 to compete.
Emphasis also remains on numerous high-powered vehicles taking to the 1/8 mile track. Association marketing officer Michael Webster states a number of drivers are in pursuit of glory.
“Watch out for the return of the Kirk Express in Tom Kirkconnell’s Honda Civic,” Webster said. “Tom has the current Front Wheel Drive record at 6.8 seconds. We’re expecting he will get competition from Donald Francis in the Plan B turbo Honda Civic Type-R, who has run a time of 7.4 seconds.
“You can also watch out for runs between the big boys. There’s Billy Ebanks in the Dodge Daytona, Sammy Jackson in the Chevy Camaro and Ronnie Forbes in the Chevy-powered Mercedes Benz. Billy and Sammy have already run five seconds on the 1/8 so the question is will Ronnie make it to the fives and join them.”
The last race for 2011 is slated for 11 December and will be put on in conjunction with sponsor NAPA.
