Killa’s one step from world title shot

Charles ‘The Killa’ Whittaker could be fighting for the world title in the new year if he wins an eliminator in Miami tonight.

Whittaker, 37, is in an IBF junior-middleweight elimination bout against Cuban Giorbis Barthelemy (25-8-2, 10 KOs) who is based in Hialeah, Florida. It’s at the Miami Airport Convention Center on Friday 18 November on a bill titled ‘Miami Warfare’.

Killa (37-12-2, 23 KOs) is riding a 13-fight winning streak that extends back seven years and includes picking up the NABO, WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation and USBA titles. He last fought in June, at the Camana Bay Arts and Recreation Centre when he outpointed Keenan Collins comfortably.

Southpaw Barthelemy, 39, is coming off two round technical knock out in March over well-respected Derek Ennis who was the USBA junior-middleweight champion at the time.

Whittaker’s adviser Raul Alvarez said: “This is the biggest fight of Killa’s career and could lead to a world title fight. I know Giorbis very well and so does the Killa. I made a few of Giorbis’s fights and even was in his corner for those fights. I can tell you that Giorbis is one of those Cuban fighters that has over 200 amateur fights and he is a southpaw but I know what the Killa is made of and I know what he can do.

I predict Killa will out box Giorbis and win a 12 round unanimous decision. Our goal is to give the Cayman Islands it’s world champion.”
