With our fast pace of life, blending smoothies have become a popular way to fuel the body.
Some people use smoothies as a replacement for breakfast, some for a meal and others for a refuelling snack either before or after a workout.
Smoothies can be made in so many creative variations, far too many to mention here. Drinking a wholesome and refreshing smoothie can be the answer when you are on the go, not overly hungry but need a meal, or wish to get quick absorption of vital nutrients to your body.
What is misleading, however, and reader beware, is smoothies have become part of the fast-food menu offerings, (they are so quick to catch on to healthy trends), yet many of them have high sugar, chemical additives and little nutritional value.
Adding blueberries to a chemically laden protein/smoothie powder seems to be all that’s necessary to proclaim the anti-oxidant pluses of the product.
Shelf-purchased blends for smoothies and protein powders also warrant a close examination.
On a recent search for a protein-based powder supplement for my own healthy green smoothie, I have walked out of many local doors empty handed. Careful reading of labels showed most products contained chemicals and dyes, things a savvy health proponent will avoid.
Other products contained high levels of sodium and yet another contains chlorine.
Whew, thank goodness for glasses and the sense to read labels.
How healthy is your smoothie at home or the smoothie you are purchasing? We know that chemicals in the body are not the healthy route to go, and taking serious steps to eliminate them is important. This does not require much extra work; in fact, your health will benefit by taking the time to study what products contain.
