You have to be in it to win it, as they say. Shaunna Noble realised to truth of this saying last week, when she received the call informing her she was the lucky winner of the Ultimate Rum Tasting Experience – in Jamaica.
Not one to enter competitions on a regular basis, Shaunna happened to be on the Caymanian Compass website (www.caycompass.com) when she came across the online version of the competition that appeared in the Spring 2011 issue of Inside Out magazine, and decided she might as well answer the two simple questions.
It was certainly worth the effort: she now has flights for two to Kingston Jamaica and three nights’ accommodation at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel in New Kingston, a luxury, colonial style hotel that was once home to prestigious Jamaican families. During her time there she and her husband will be taken on a VIP tour of the Appleton Estate, during which they will view the distillery, learn about blending and have a chance to taste some different rums.
Shaunna has been to Jamaica several times as her parents and husband are originally from there, but she has not visited the Appleton Estate before. Jo Austin, marketing assistant at Jacques Scott, who along with Cayman Airways are sponsors of the competition, has visited the estate in the Nassau Valley in the past and assured her she would enjoy the experience.
The winner has six months to take the trip so is hoping to take advantage of one of the long weekends in July or November although, she says, she would prefer to stay dry, so if Monday’s rain is any indication of things to come over the next few weeks, the trip may well not take place before November.
