Autocross runs on to Breakers

Breakers Speedway will host dexterity racing for the first time in months.

Cayman’s only race track is expected to be the site of a June autocross meet. The next instalment in the Cayman Motorsports Association Time Attack series is slated for Sunday 26 June. Racing is slated to start at 1pm with mandatory sign-up on Friday 24 June at 7pm at Automotive Art.

Breakers has only held a handful of autocross meets in its history. One of its most memorable showings came in August 2009 when established racer Ian Charlery flashed his Nissan Skyline GT-S and Karen Bodden ran her Porsche Cayman S.

News of this month’s race comes as the Time Attack series has steadily pushed on this year. One racer making waves is Jimel McLean, whose metallic gold-painted Civic hatchback is at the top of the street tire class. The car (which belongs to Jimel’s brother Daron) started out with an underpowered D15 engine before going under the knife for fresh paint and a new power plant.

Aside from McLean’s dominance autocross has seen a number of notable happenings. A slew of new rides have taken to dodging cones including a BMW M3 and a Nissan 350z belonging to Wayne Kirkconnell.
