BBBS fundraiser makes for a soup-er event

Several restaurants are vying for your vote to determine whose soup is best, while the tasting event is aimed at raising funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

For $25 you get all the delicious soup you can eat and a chance to win gift vouchers from some of the island’s popular restaurants.

The third annual Soup-er Bowl will be from noon-6pm Saturday, 5 February, at the Camana Bay Arts and Recreation Centre.

Restaurant competition is on, as last year’s top award went to Guy Harvey’s for their lobster veloute. First- and second-runners-up, respectively, were The Ritz Carlton’s 7 Prime Cuts and Sunset’s lentilicious soup, and the Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa’s crab & roasted corn chowder. Rum Point Restaurant took the most original soup award for their cassava and coconut combination.

Hemant Balgobin, Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraising chair, said the Soup-er Bowl “raises much-needed funds for our mentoring programmes, and participating restaurants get a chance to reach out to potential new customers.”
