The Fidelity Cayman Storm continued their undefeated run by beating the Queensgate Pigs Trotters 24-15 Saturday for their fifth straight win in the Alex Alexander Memorial Cup tournament.
Pigs’ standout Paul Westin scored the first try of the game but Martin Pacaud answered for the Storm and the teams went into the break knotted at 10-10.
Hugh McBride opened the scoring in the second half for the Storm, before Pigs’ Jered Holmes levelled the match at 15-all with a try of his own. The Storm then followed with several conversions and a try from Cornal Keane to come away with the win.
“This is probably the hardest game that we’ve had in the last few years, especially since I’ve been at the Storm for the last three seasons now,” said McBride. “It’s a testament to the Pigs and their captain. They played fantastically. The boys really pulled it together today. The first couple of quarters were really tough; we didn’t have the ball much of the time, a couple of missed tackles … but we managed to grind it out for the win in the end.”
In the other game of the day, the John Doak Tradeview Markets Iguanas came away with a convincing 30-5 victory over the Advance Fire and Plumbing Buccaneers.
