A police officer was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car while investigating suspected drugs offences.

In a press release, police said, officers from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and the Public Lands Commission were conducting a joint operation in the Seven Mile Public Beach, when they had “cause to speak with a man in the parking lot at the location, following observations made in relation to suspected offenses under the Misuse of Drugs Act.”.

Officers approached the suspect who became aggressive and violent, and his car struck a police officer as he drove away from the scene.

A lands commission officer was also injured.

Police said, “The officers were transported to hospital for treatment and have since been released.”
